Important: - You must log on to your computer with an account that has computer administrator privileges in order to complete these instructions.
- You may need your Windows CD in order to complete these instructions.
To set up a DHCP Ethernet connection:
- Check to see if your computer is already configured to connect to the Internet.For detailed instructions, refer to Verifying that Windows XP/Vista is Configured to Connect to the Internet via Ethernet (http://answers.vt.edu/kb/entry/2525/).If it is already configured, you do not need to complete the following steps.
- Install TCP/IP.For detailed instructions, refer to Reinstalling TCP/IP in Windows XP (http://answers.vt.edu/kb/entry/2433/).
- Configure TCP/IP.
- Click the Start button, and select Control Panel.
- Click the Network and Internet Connections link.
- Click the Network Connections link.
- Right-click your local area connection, and select Properties.
- Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
- Click the Properties button.
- Select the Obtain an IP Address Automatically option.
- Select the Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically option.
- Click the Advanced button.
- Select the WINS tab.
- Select the Default: Use NetBIOS Setting from the DHCP Server... option.
- Click OK.
- In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, click OK.
- Click the Close button.
- Restart your computer.
