How do I connect to the VT-Wireless wireless network in Mac OS X v10.6?

Answer:

Note: For Virginia Tech students, current registration for Virginia Tech wireless services using COLA (https://cola.cns.vt.edu/servlets/logon) is required to access the VT-Wireless wireless network.

To connect to the VT-Wireless wireless network in Mac OS X v10.6:
  1. If you have not already done so, create a network password. For instructions, see Creating a Network Password (http://answers.vt.edu/kb/entry/3765/).
  2. If you previously connected to VT-Wireless by downloading and installing a network certificate, delete all certificates. For instructions, see Deleting VT-Wireless Certificates in Mac OS X v10.5/10.6/10.7 (http://answers.vt.edu/kb/entry/3514).
  3. Run the script to configure your wireless settings.
    1. Click the following link to download the VT-Wireless.zip file: Mac VT-Wireless script (http://www.support.vt.edu/tools/thetools/VT-Wireless.zip).
    2. Save the VT-Wireless.zip script file to your desktop.
    3. Disconnect from all wireless networks.
      1. In the menu bar, click the airport icon.
      2. From the drop-down list, select Turn AirPort Off.
    4. On your desktop, double-click the VT-Wireless.zip icon.
    5. On your desktop, double-click the VT-Wireless script icon.
    6. If prompted about opening the file, click the Open button.
    7. In the VT-Wireless setup window, click OK.

      Note: If the VT-Wireless setup window does not automatically appear, on the dock, click the bouncing Finder icon.

    8. In the authentication window:
      1. In the Name: text box, type the name of an administrator account.
      2. In the Password: text box, type the password of the administrator account.
      3. Click OK.
    9. In the Authenticating to network "VT-Wireless" window:
      1. In the Please enter your name: text box, type your PID.
      2. In the Please enter your password: text box, type your network password.
      3. Click OK.
    10. If the Verify Certificate window appears:
      1. Click the Continue button.
      2. In the Name: text box, type the name of an administrator account.
      3. In the Password: text box, type the password of the administrator account.
      4. Click OK.
    11. After the setup completes, click OK.
    12. When prompted to create a network password, click the NO button.
