How do I configure Windows Mail for Windows Vista to connect to the Virginia Tech Exchange server via IMAP?

To configure Windows Mail to connect to the Exchange server:
  1. Start Windows Mail.
  2. From the Tools drop-down list, select Accounts....
  3. Click the Add... button.
  4. Select Email Account.
  5. Click Next.
  6. In the Display name: text box, type your name as you want it to appear on messages you send.
  7. Click Next.
  8. In the Email address: text box, type: [Your Hokies ID]@exchange.vt.edu

    Note: Replace [Your Hokies ID] with your Hokies ID.

  9. Click Next.
  10. From the Incoming email server type: drop-down list, select IMAP.
  11. In the Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server: text box, type: exsecure.vt.edu
  12. In the Outgoing email server (SMTP) name: text box, type: auth.smtp.vt.edu
  13. Place a check in the Outgoing server requires authentication check box.
  14. Click Next.
  15. Clear the Remember password check box.
  16. Click Next.
  17. Place a check in the Do not download my email and folders at this time check box.
  18. Click Finish.
  19. In the Internet Accounts window, click the Properties button.
  20. Select the Servers tab.
  21. Click the Settings... button.
  22. Select the Log on using radio button.
  23. Clear the Remember password check box.
  24. In the Email username: text box, type your PID.
  25. Click OK.
  26. Select the Advanced tab.
  27. Clear the Outgoing mail (SMTP): text box.
  28. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP): text box, type: 465
  29. Under Outgoing mail (SMTP):, place a check in the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) check box.
  30. Under Incoming mail (IMAP): place a check in the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) check box.

    Note: The port number will change from 143 to 993.

  31. Click OK.
  32. Click the Close button.
  33. If asked to download folders from the mail server:
    1. Click the Yes button.
    2. In the Password: text box, type your Hokies password.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Click OK.
