How do I configure Outlook 2011 to connect to the Virginia Tech Exchange Server?

Answer:

Important: Before you can add an Exchange server profile in Outlook 2011, you must have an Exchange account. For detailed instructions, see the Exchange (http://www.computing.vt.edu/email_and_calendaring/exchange/index.html) page.

To add an Exchange profile:
  1. Start Outlook 2011.
  2. From the Tools drop-down list, select Accounts....
  3. In the bottom left of the window, click the plus sign (+) button.
  4. From the drop-down list, select Exchange....
  5. Type the address that you are using.
    • If you are forwarding your @vt.edu account to your Exchange account, in the E-mail address: text box, type: [Your PID]@vt.edu
    • If you are not forwarding your @vt.edu account to your Exchange account, in the E-mail address: text box type: [Your PID]@exchange.vt.edu

    Note: Replace [Your PID] with your PID.

  6. In the User name: text box, type: HOKIES\[Your PID]

    Note: Replace [Your PID] with your PID.

  7. In the Password: text box, type your HOKIES password.
  8. Clear the Configure automatically check box.
  9. In the Server: text box, type: weboutlook.vt.edu
  10. Click the Add Account button.
  11. Click the Advanced... button.
  12. Under Directory service:
    1. In the Server: text box, type: gc.w2k.vt.edu
    2. Place a check in the Use SSL to connect (recommended) check box.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Close the Accounts window.
