How do I configure Outlook 2010/2013 to connect to the Virginia Tech Exchange Server?
Answer:

Important: In order for these directions to work, you must be logged on to your Hokies domain account profile in Windows.

To configure Outlook to connect to the Virginia Tech Exchange Server:
  1. Verify that Outlook is closed.
  2. View the user mail settings.
    • In Vista/7:
      1. Click the Start button.
      2. Select Control Panel.
      3. Click the User Accounts link.
      4. Click the Mail link.
    • In 8:
      1. On the Start screen, type: mail
      2. In the right pane, click the Settings icon.
      3. Click the Mail tile.
  3. Depending on whether there are other email accounts already configured or not:
    • If there are no other email accounts configured:
      1. Click the Add... button.
      2. Type a name you want for the profile.
      3. Click OK.
    • If there are other email accounts configured:
      1. Click the E-mail Accounts... button.
      2. Click the New... button.
  4. Choose to create the account manually.
    • In 2010, select the Manually configure server settings or additional server types radio button.
    • In 2013, select the Manual setup or additional server types radio button.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Choose the Exchange type.
    • In 2010, select the Microsoft Exchange or compatible service radio button.
    • In 2013, select the Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service radio button.
  7. Click Next.
  8. In the Server: text box, type: exchange.vt.edu
  9. In the User Name: text box, type your Hokies ID.
  10. Click the Check Name button.
  11. If prompted for credentials:
    1. In the User name text box, type your Hokies ID.
    2. In the Password text box, type your Hokies ID password.
    3. Click OK.
  12. Click Next.
  13. If the Mail Delivery Location window appears, click OK.
  14. Click the Finish button.
  15. Close all windows.
