Deleting VT-Wireless Certificates in Mac OS X v10.5/10.6/10.7

Question:
How do I update to a new VT-Wireless certificate and delete my old certificate in Mac OS X v10.5/10.6/10.7?

Answer:
To keep using the VT-Wireless wireless network after your certificate expires, delete your old certificate and then update to a new certificate.
  1. Start Finder.
  2. From the Go drop-down list, select Utilities.
  3. Double-click the Keychain Access icon.
  4. In the left pane, select login.
  5. Under Name, locate the following certificates:

    Note: Some of these may not appear in your list. Continue on with the steps for any and all of the following certificates that do appear.

    • mantid.cns.vt.edu
    • weevil.cns.vt.edu
    • The certificate with your PID as its name
    • Research and Development Root CA
    • Research and Development Remote Access CA
    • Research and Development Network Access CA
    • VT-Wireless.cns.vt.edu
    • VT-Netcert-[Name of your certificate]

      Note: [Name of your certificate] will be replaced with the name you entered at the time you downloaded the certificate.

  6. Delete each of the certificates listed above. To do this:
    1. Select the certificate.
    2. From the Edit drop-down list, select Delete.
    3. Click the Delete button.
    4. If prompted for authorization to make changes:
      1. In the Name: text box, type the name of an administrator account.
      2. In the Password: text box, type the password of the administrator account.
      3. Confirm the authorization.
        1. In Mac OS X v10.5/10.6, click OK.
        2. In Mac OS X v10.7, click the Update Settings button.
  7. In the left pane, select System.
  8. Under Name, locate the following certificates:

    Note: Some of these may not appear in your list. Continue on with the steps for any and all of the following certificates that do appear.

    • mantid.cns.vt.edu
    • weevil.cns.vt.edu
    • The certificate with your PID as its name
    • Research and Development Root CA
    • Research and Development Remote Access CA
    • Research and Development Network Access CA
    • VT-Wireless.cns.vt.edu
    • VT-Netcert-[Name of your certificate]

      Note: [Name of your certificate] will be replaced with the name you entered at the time you downloaded the certificate.

  9. Delete each of the certificates listed above. To do this:
    1. Select the certificate.
    2. From the Edit drop-down list, select Delete.
    3. Click the Delete button.
    4. If prompted for authorization to make changes:
      1. In the Name: text box, type the name of an administrator account.
      2. In the Password: text box, type the password of the administrator account.
      3. Confirm the authorization.
        1. In v10.5/10.6, click OK.
        2. In v10.7, click the Update Settings button.
  10. Close the Keychain Access window.
  11. From the Apple drop-down list, select System Preferences....
  12. Click the Network icon.
  13. In v10.5/10.6:
    1. In the left pane, select AirPort.
    2. Click the Advanced... button.
    3. Select the 802.1X tab.
    4. To the left of User Profiles, click the arrow to expand the menu.
    5. For each profile listed.
      1. Select the profile.
      2. Click the - (minus) button.
    6. Click OK.
    7. In the Network window, click Apply.
  14. Click the Advanced... button.
  15. In v10.5/10.6, select the AirPort tab.
  16. In the Preferred Networks: list, select VT-Wireless.
  17. Click the - (minus) button to delete VT-Wireless from the list.
  18. Clear the appropriate check box.
    • In v10.5, clear the Remember any network this computer has joined check box.
    • In v10.6/10.7, clear the Remember networks this computer has joined check box.
  19. Click OK.
  20. Click Apply.
