Note: For Virginia Tech students, current registration for Virginia Tech wireless services using
COLA is required to access the VT-Wireless wireless network.
To connect an iOS device to the VT-Wireless wireless network:
- If you have never installed a certificate on the device before, proceed to the next step. If you have a certificate that is expiring or has expired, delete your old certificate before installing the new one. For instructions, see Deleting an Expired Certificate From My iPhone.
- Using your iOS device, create and download a personal network access certificate.
- Go to the Login to NetCert via CAS Web page.
- In the VT PID: field, type your PID.
- In the Password: field, type your PID password.
- Click the Login button.
- In the Label for certificate: field, type a name for your certificate.
- Click the Generate Certificate button.
- To download the certificate, follow the instructions on the CNS page containing your personal network access certificate password.
Important: Write down this password exactly as it is displayed. You will need it to install the certificate.
- Tap the Install button.
- Tap Install Now.
- Enter your certificate password.
- Tap Next.
- Tap Done.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Tap VT-Wireless.
- Leave Username and Password blank.
- Tap Mode.
- Select EAP-TLS.
- Tap Enter Password to go back to the password screen.
- Tap Identity. This may be your PID or it may be blank.
- Tap on the most recent identity, usually found at the bottom of the list.
- Tap Enter Password to go back to the password screen.
- Tap Join.
Note: If an Unable to join the network "VT-Wireless" message appears, tap Dismiss and tap Join again.
- Under VT-Wireless.cns.vt.edu Thawte Premium Server CA, tap Accept.
