Note: To keep using the VT-Wireless wireless network after your certificate expires, delete your old certificate and update to a new certificate. To do this, see Deleting VT-Wireless Certificates in Mac OS X v10.5.
Important: The following are required to connect to this network:
- Mac OS X v10.5 with all current updates applied.
- Correct time and date on your computer.
- AirPort or Airport Extreme wireless network card installed.
- A valid Virginia Tech PID and password.
- A personal network access certificate installed on your computer. For installation instructions, visit the Login to NetCert via CAS Web page (http://netcert.cns.vt.edu/).
- An active wireless registration.Virginia Tech Students can register for wireless using COLA (https://cola.cns.vt.edu/servlets/logon). Faculty and staff should contact their departmental communications liaison to register for this service.
- Administrator access to your computer.
To connect to the VT-Wireless wireless network in Mac OS X v10.5:
- Click on the Airport menu bar icon.
- From the drop-down menu, select VT-Wireless.
- A window will pop up saying that the VT-Wireless network requires a password. Leave the User name and Password fields blank.
Note: 802.1x should be set to automatic.
- Click OK.
- The eapolclient wants to sign using "private key" in your key chain window will appear.
- Click Always allow.
- The 802.1x authentication the server certificate is not trusted because there is not explicit trust setting window will appear.
- Click Show certificate.
- Place a check in the check box beside Thawte Premium Server CA to always trust.
- Click Continue.
- VT-Wireless should now connect.
