How do I manually run Windows Update in Windows Vista/7/8?

Answer:
  1. Navigate to Windows Update.
    • In Vista/7:
      1. Click the Start button.
      2. Select All Programs.
      3. Select Windows Update.
    • In 8:
      1. On the Start screen, type: Windows Update
      2. In the right pane, click the Settings icon.
      3. Click the Install optional updates tile.
  2. In the left pane, click the Check for updates link.
  3. Click the appropriate link to select update(s).
    • If there is only one update, click the 1 important update is available link.
    • If there is more than one updates, click the __ important updates are available link.
  4. Place a check in the check box(es) corresponding to the update(s) you want to install.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click the Install updates button.

    Note: Depending on the updates you chose to install, you may be prompted by different windows. Follow the prompts to continue with the installation.

  7. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click the Restart now button.
