How do I configure Mac OS X Mail v3.x to connect to the Virginia Tech Mail server?
Answer:
  1. Start Mac OS Mail v3.x.
    • If this is the first time you are setting up your account, a wizard will walk you through the steps.
    • If the wizard does not appear or if you already have an account set up in Mail, go to the File menu, then select Add Account to launch the wizard.
  2. In the Full Name: text box, type your name as you want it to appear in outgoing mail.
  3. In the E-mail Address: text box, type your [Your PID]@vt.edu

    Note: Replace [Your PID] with your PID.

  4. In the Password text box, type your PID password.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. In the Account Type drop-down box, select POP.
  7. In the Incoming Mail Server text box, type pop.vt.edu
  8. In the Username and Password text boxes, type your PID and PID password.
  9. Click Continue.
  10. In the Outgoing Mail Server text box, type auth.smtp.vt.edu
  11. Place a check in the Use only this server check box.
  12. Place a check in the Use Authenication check box.
  13. In the User Name text box, type your PID.
  14. In the Password text box, type your PID password.
  15. Click Continue.
  16. If the Outgoing Mail Security dialog box appears:
    • Place a check in the Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) check box.
    • For Authentication, select Password.
  17. Place a check in the Take Account online check box.
  18. Click Create.
