- Open Windows Mail.
- From the Tools menu, select Accounts....
- Click the Add... button.
- Select E-mail Account.
- Click Next.
- In the Display Name: text box, type your first and last name.
- Click Next.
- In the E-mail Address: text box, type: [PID]@vt.edu
Note: Replace [PID] with your Virginia Tech PID.
- Click Next.
- From the Incoming E-mail Server Type: drop-down list, select POP3.
- In the Incoming Mail (POP3 or IMAP) Server: text box, type: pop.vt.edu
- In the Outgoing E-mail Server (SMTP) Name: text box, type: auth.smtp.vt.edu
- Place a check in the Outgoing Server Requires Authentication check box.
- Click Next.
- In the E-mail Username: text box, type your Virginia Tech PID.
- Clear the Remember Password check box.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Place a check in the Do Not Download My E-mail at This Time check box.
- Under Mail, select your Virginia Tech mail (pop.vt.edu) account.
- If not already set to default, click the Set As Default button.
- Click the Properties button.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Under Outgoing Mail (SMTP):, place a check in the This Server Requires a Secure Connection (SSL) check box.
- Clear the Outgoing Mail (SMTP): text box.
- In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP): text box, type: 465
- Under Incoming Mail (POP3):, place a check in the This Server Requires a Secure Connection (SSL) check box.
- Clear the Incoming Mail (POP3): text box.
- In the Incoming Mail (POP3): text box, type: 995
- Click OK.
- Click Close.
