How do I configure Windows Mail in Windows Vista?
Answer:

  1. Open Windows Mail.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Accounts....
  3. Click the Add... button.
  4. Select E-mail Account.
  5. Click Next.
  6. In the Display Name: text box, type your first and last name.
  7. Click Next.
  8. In the E-mail Address: text box, type: [PID]@vt.edu

    Note: Replace [PID] with your Virginia Tech PID.

  9. Click Next.
  10. From the Incoming E-mail Server Type: drop-down list, select POP3.
  11. In the Incoming Mail (POP3 or IMAP) Server: text box, type: pop.vt.edu
  12. In the Outgoing E-mail Server (SMTP) Name: text box, type: auth.smtp.vt.edu
  13. Place a check in the Outgoing Server Requires Authentication check box.
  14. Click Next.
  15. In the E-mail Username: text box, type your Virginia Tech PID.
  16. Clear the Remember Password check box.
  17. Click Next.
  18. Click Finish.
  19. Place a check in the Do Not Download My E-mail at This Time check box.
  20. Under Mail, select your Virginia Tech mail (pop.vt.edu) account.
  21. If not already set to default, click the Set As Default button.
  22. Click the Properties button.
  23. Select the Advanced tab.
  24. Under Outgoing Mail (SMTP):, place a check in the This Server Requires a Secure Connection (SSL) check box.
  25. Clear the Outgoing Mail (SMTP): text box.
  26. In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP): text box, type: 465
  27. Under Incoming Mail (POP3):, place a check in the This Server Requires a Secure Connection (SSL) check box.
  28. Clear the Incoming Mail (POP3): text box.
  29. In the Incoming Mail (POP3): text box, type: 995
  30. Click OK.
  31. Click Close.
