Answer:

To configure Outlook 2007 for VT POP mail:

  1. Start Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Click the Tools menu and select Account Settings.
  3. Select the E-mail Tab.
  4. Click New.
  5. Select the Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, HTTP option.
  6. Click Next.
  7. In the Your Name text box type your full name.
  8. Type: [Your PID]@vt.edu in the E-mail Address text box.

    Note: [Your PID] is your Virginia Tech PID.

  9. Place a check in the Manually Configure Server Settings or AdditionalServer Types check box.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Select the Internet E-Mail option.
  12. Click Next.
  13. From the Account Type drop-down box, select POP3.
  14. In the Incoming Mail Server (POP3) text box, type: pop.vt.edu
  15. In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) text box, type: auth.smtp.vt.edu
  16. In the User Name text box, type your PID.
  17. In the Password text box, type your password.
  18. Uncheck the box Remember Password.
  19. Click the More Settings button.
  20. Select the Outgoing Server tab.
  21. Place a check in the My Outgoing Server (SMTP) Requires Authentication check box.
  22. Select the Advanced Tab.
  23. Under Incoming Server (POP3), place a check in the The Server Requires a Secure Connection (SSL) check box.
  24. Under Outgoing Server (SMTP), Change the port to 465 (the default is 25).
  25. From the Use the Following Type of Encrypted Connection pull-down box, select SSL.
  26. Click OK.
  27. Click Next.
  28. Click Finish.
