To configure Outlook 2007 for VT POP mail:
- Start Microsoft Outlook.
- Click the Tools menu and select Account Settings.
- Select the E-mail Tab.
- Click New.
- Select the Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, HTTP option.
- Click Next.
- In the Your Name text box type your full name.
- Type: [Your PID]@vt.edu in the E-mail Address text box.
Note: [Your PID] is your Virginia Tech PID.
- Place a check in the Manually Configure Server Settings or AdditionalServer Types check box.
- Click Next.
- Select the Internet E-Mail option.
- Click Next.
- From the Account Type drop-down box, select POP3.
- In the Incoming Mail Server (POP3) text box, type: pop.vt.edu
- In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) text box, type: auth.smtp.vt.edu
- In the User Name text box, type your PID.
- In the Password text box, type your password.
- Uncheck the box Remember Password.
- Click the More Settings button.
- Select the Outgoing Server tab.
- Place a check in the My Outgoing Server (SMTP) Requires Authentication check box.
- Select the Advanced Tab.
- Under Incoming Server (POP3), place a check in the The Server Requires a Secure Connection (SSL) check box.
- Under Outgoing Server (SMTP), Change the port to 465 (the default is 25).
- From the Use the Following Type of Encrypted Connection pull-down box, select SSL.
- Click OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
