Incorrect Filtering of Messages in Junk Mail Manager (JMM)
Time to Complete (in minutes): 5

Question:
Why does some spam get through the Junk Mail Manager (JMM), while some legitimate mail is detained?

Answer:

In programs used to filter spam, this is known as a false positive. A false positive is a legitimate message mistakenly marked as spam.

Junk Mail Manager (JMM) uses information provided by Mirapoint scanners to separate spam from legitimate messages. The pattern used by the scanners is continuously updated, and the Virginia Tech mail team submits additional changes to Mirapoint as necessary.

You may use the Allowed Senders, Blocked Senders, and the Content Filtering options within Junk Mail Manager to customize the filter to meet your needs.
