Important: Log on to your computer with an account with computer administrator privileges.
To install the VTCA root certificate:
- Download the VTCA Root Certificate (https://secure.hosting.vt.edu/www.pki.vt.edu/download/root/cacert.crt).
- Place a check in the Trust this CA to identify web sites check box.
- Place a check in the Trust this CA to identify email users check box.
- Place a check in the Trust this CA to identify software developers check box.
- Click OK.
- Verify that the certificate is installed properly.
- Open your certificate options.
- In Firefox 3.5 for Windows:
- From the Tools menu, select Options....
- Click the Advanced tab.
- In Firefox 3.5 for Mac OS X:
- From the Firefox menu, select Preferences....
- Click the Advanced icon.
- Select the Encryption tab.
- Click the View Certificates button.
- Select the Authorities tab.
- Select Virginia Tech Root CA Software Security Device.
- Click the View... button.
- Verify that the fingerprints display as:
"SHA1 Fingerprints: AF:6F:EB:42:FA:2F:E4:A2:6E:9F:7F:B5:B5:FF:3A:BC:13:C6:0D:81"

- Click the Close button.
- Click OK.
- Close the Advanced Window.
