How do I configure Outlook 2003 to view newsgroups?
Answer:

Outlook 2003 uses Outlook Express to view newsgroups. When you configure Outlook to view newsgroups, Outlook Express will open automatically. To configure Outlook 2003 to view newsgroups:
  1. Configure Outlook Express to connect to the Virginia Tech news server. For instructions, refer to Configuring Outlook Express 6 for Windows to View Newgroups (http://answers.vt.edu/kb/entry/2279/)
  2. Start Outlook.
  3. From the Tools menu, select Customize....
  4. Select the Commands tab.
  5. Under Categories:, select Go.
  6. Under Commands:, select News.
  7. Under Commands:, drag News to the Go menu and drop it on the list where you want it to appear.
  8. In the Customize window, click the Close button.
  9. From the Go menu, select News.

    Note: If prompted to log on:
    1. In the User Name: text box, type your PID.
    2. In the Password: text box, type your PID password.
    3. Click OK.

  10. Under Folders, select news.vt.edu.
  11. Click the Yes button.
  12. Repeat the following for each newsgroup to which you want to subscribe:
    1. Under Newsgroup, select the newsgroup.
    2. Click the Subscribe button.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Repeat the following for each newsgroup to which you subscribed:
    1. Under Folders, right-click the newsgroup.
    2. From the drop-down list, select Synchronization Settings.
    3. From the drop-down list, select All Messages
  15. Click the Synchronize Account button.
