- How do I configure Outlook 2003 to view newsgroups?
- Answer:
Outlook 2003 uses Outlook Express to view newsgroups. When you configure Outlook to view newsgroups, Outlook Express will open automatically. To configure Outlook 2003 to view newsgroups:
- Configure Outlook Express to connect to the Virginia Tech news server. For instructions, refer to Configuring Outlook Express 6 for Windows to View Newgroups (http://answers.vt.edu/kb/entry/2279/)
- Start Outlook.
- From the Tools menu, select Customize....
- Select the Commands tab.
- Under Categories:, select Go.
- Under Commands:, select News.
- Under Commands:, drag News to the Go menu and drop it on the list where you want it to appear.
- In the Customize window, click the Close button.
- From the Go menu, select News.
Note: If prompted to log on:
- In the User Name: text box, type your PID.
- In the Password: text box, type your PID password.
- Click OK.
- Under Folders, select news.vt.edu.
- Click the Yes button.
- Repeat the following for each newsgroup to which you want to subscribe:
- Under Newsgroup, select the newsgroup.
- Click the Subscribe button.
- Click OK.
- Repeat the following for each newsgroup to which you subscribed:
- Under Folders, right-click the newsgroup.
- From the drop-down list, select Synchronization Settings.
- From the drop-down list, select All Messages.
- Click the Synchronize Account button.
