Problems Running Symantec Endpoint Protection LiveUpdate for Windows XP/Vista/7
Time to Complete (in minutes): 20
Question:
I cannot run LiveUpdate in Windows XP/Vista/7. How can I fix this?

Answer:

Note: 4Help highly recommends that you install the latest version of Symantec. A Symantec download is available at no charge for current Virginia Tech students, faculty, staff, and retirees from the antivirus.vt.edu Web page (http://virus.vt.edu/download/). For detailed instructions, see Downloading and Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6 for Windows XP/Vista/7 and Windows 2003/2008 Server (http://answers.vt.edu/kb/entry/2808).

If you are having trouble running LiveUpdate and receiving messages, such as the "LiveUpdate was unable to establish a connection to the LiveUpdate server" error message, you need to reinstall LiveUpdate 3.5. To do this:
  1. Go to Symantec's LiveUpdate files Web page (http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/home_homeoffice/products/lu/lu/files.html).
  2. Under LiveUpdate 3.5, click the LUSETUP.EXE link.
  3. Save the file to your desktop.
  4. On your desktop, double-click the LUSETUP icon.
  5. If asked:
    • In Windows XP, click the Run button.
    • In Windows Vista, click the Continue button.
    • In Windows 7, click the Yes button.
  6. Click the Yes button.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Restart your computer.
