How do I create a new HTML or text file for my Web site using the Web Administration Tool?
Answer:
Important: You must be an administrator of your site in order to complete these instructions. For more information, refer to the Web Hosting page (http://www.computing.vt.edu/internet_and_web/web_publishing/web_hosting/index.html).

To create a new HTML or text file for your site:

  1. Go to the Web Hosting site (https://secure.hosting.vt.edu/admin).
  2. In the Web Server Address text box, type your site address.
  3. In the PID text box, type your PID.
  4. In the Password text box, type your password.
  5. Click the Login button.
  6. Select the directory to which you want to add your file.
  7. Click the New File button.
  8. In the File Name text box, type a name for your file including the extension.
  9. Click OK.
  10. In the text box, type the HTML or text you want to use.
  11. Click the Save button.
  12. To view how your file will appear on your site, click the Preview button.

    Note: If prompted for a password:
    1. In the User ID text box, type your PID.
    2. In the Password text box, type your password.
    3. Click OK.

  13. Click the Save & Exit button.
