How do I connect to the VT_WLAN wireless network in Mac OS X v10.3/10.4?
Answer:
Important: You must register for wireless service at Virginia Tech before configuring your computer. See CNS Wireless Registration.

To connect to the VT_WLAN Wireless network:

  1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
  2. Click the Network icon.
  3. From the Show drop-down list, select AirPort.

    Note: If AirPort is not included in the drop-down list:
    1. From the Show drop-down list, select Network Port Configurations.
    2. Under On, place a check in the check box next to AirPort.

  4. Select the AirPort tab.
  5. Select the Virginia Tech Wireless Network.
  6. Select the Join a Specific Network option.
  7. From the Network drop-down list, select VT_WLAN.
  8. Select the TCP/IP tab.
  9. From the Configure IPv4 drop-down list, select Using DHCP.
  10. In the Search Domains text box, type: vt.edu
  11. Click the Apply Now button.
  12. From the System Preferences menu, select Quit System Preferences.
  13. Open your Web browser.
  14. Go to the Virginia Tech homepage (http://www.vt.edu/). You will be redirected to a network confirmation screen.
  15. In the PID text box, type your PID.
  16. In the Password text box, type your password.
  17. Click the Log In button.
