How do I configure Outlook 2003 to connect to the Virginia Tech Exchange server?

Answer:

Important: Faculty and staff can find information about acquiring an Exchange account on the Exchange page (http://www.computing.vt.edu/email_and_calendaring/exchange/index.html).

To configure Outlook 2003 to connect to the Exchange server:
  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Select Control Panel.
  3. Click the User Accounts link.
  4. Click the Mail link.
  5. Click the E-mail Accounts... button.

    Note: If the E-mail Accounts... button does not appear:
    1. Click the Add... button.
    2. In the Profile Name: text box, type: Outlook
    3. Click OK.

  6. Select the Add a new e-mail account radio button.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select the Microsoft Exchange Server radio button.
  9. Click Next.
  10. In the Microsoft Exchange Server: text box, type: exchange.vt.edu
  11. Clear the Use Cached Exchange Mode check box.
  12. In the User Name: text box, type your Hokies ID.
  13. Click Next.
  14. If prompted, click the Yes button.
  15. Click Finish.
  16. Click the Close button.
  17. Start Outlook.
  18. Log on to your account.
    • If you have not previously used Outlook:
      1. In the User Name: text box, type: Hokies\[Your Hokies ID]

        Note: Replace [Your Hokies ID] with your Hokies ID.

      2. In the Password: text box, type your Hokies password.
    • If you have previously used Outlook:
      1. In the User Name: text box, type your Hokies ID.
      2. In the Password: text box, type your Hokies password.
      3. In the Domain: text box, type: Hokies
