How do I configure Outlook 2003 to connect to the Virginia Tech Exchange Server?
Answer:

Important: Faculty and staff members can find information about getting an Exchange account on the Exchange page (http://www.computing.vt.edu/email_and_calendaring/exchange/index.html). Students, alums, faculty, and staff members can find information about their VT Mail account on the VT Mail page (http://www.computing.vt.edu/email_and_calendaring/vt_mail/index.html).

To configure Outlook 2003 to connect to the Exchange server:
  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Select Control Panel.
  3. Click the User Accounts link.
  4. Click the Mail link.
  5. Click the E-mail Accounts... button.

    Note: If this button does not appear, create a Mail profile and proceed to the next step:
    1. Click the Add... button.
    2. In the Profile Name: text box, type: Outlook
    3. Click OK.

  6. Select the Add a New E-mail Account option.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select the Microsoft Exchange Server option.
  9. Click Next.
  10. In the Microsoft Exchange Server: text box, type: exchange.vt.edu
  11. Clear the Use Cached Exchange Mode check box.
  12. In the User Name text box, type your Hokies ID.
  13. Click Next.
  14. If prompted, click Yes.
  15. Click Finish.
  16. Click Close.
  17. Open Outlook.
  18. Log on to your account.
    • If you are running Windows with no previous Outlook installations:
      1. In the User Name: text box, type: Hokies\[Your Hokies ID]

        Note: Replace [Your Hokies ID] with your Hokies ID.

      2. In the Password: text box, type your Hokies password.
    • If you have had previous Outlook installations:
      1. In the User Name: text box, type your Hokies ID.
      2. In the Password: text box, type your Hokies password.
      3. In the Domain: text box, type: Hokies
  19. Click OK.

Important: When checking your Exchange e-mail account, you must use your Hokies ID and password.
