- Click the Start button.
- Select Control Panel.
- Open your computer's Security Center.
- In XP, click the Security Center link.
- In Vista, click the Security link.
- In 7, click the System and Security link.
- Click the Windows Firewall link.
- View your Windows Firewall settings.
- In XP, select the General tab.
- In Vista:
- In the left pane, click the Turn Windows Firewall on or off link.
- Click the Continue button.
- Select the General tab.
- In 7, in the left column, click the Turn Windows Firewall on or off link.
- Enable or disable your firewall.
- In XP/Vista:
- To turn the Windows Firewall on, select the On (recommended) option.
- To turn the Windows Firewall off, select the Off (not recommended) option.
- In 7:
- To turn the Windows Firewall on, select the Turn on Windows Firewall option.
- To turn the Windows Firewall off, select the Turn off Windows Firewall (not recommended) option.
- Click OK.
- Close all open windows.
