How do I add a Web Folder to connect to Filebox or the Web hosting service in Windows XP/Vista?
Answer:
  1. Add a network location:
    • In Windows XP:
      1. From the Start menu, select My Computer.
      2. Under the Other Places section, click the My Network Places link.
      3. Under Network Tasks, click the Add a Network Place link.
      4. Click Next.
      5. Select Choose Another Network Location.
      6. Click Next.
    • In Windows Vista:
      1. Click the Start button, select Computer.
      2. In the right pane, right-click and select Add a Network Location.
      3. Click Next, select Choose a Custom Network location.
      4. Click Next
  2. In the Internet or Network Address text box, type your site's address:
    • To add your filebox's address, type: https://dav.filebox.vt.edu/users/[PID]

      Note: Replace [PID] with your Virginia Tech PID, or the PID of the person to whose filebox you want to connect.

    • To add your hosting site's address, type: https://webdav.hosting.vt.edu/www.[Your Site Name]

      Note: Replace [Your Site Name] with the name of your site.

      Example: If your site's name is www.abc.vt.edu, type: https://webdav.hosting.vt.edu/www.abc.vt.edu

  3. Click Next.

    Note: For Vista users, if you receive a "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another" error message, download the Software Update for Web Folders:
    1. Go to Microsoft's Software Update for Web Folders(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=17c36612-632e-4c04-9382-987622ed1d64&displaylang=en/) knowledge base article and click the Download button.
    2. The download should start automatically. If it doesn't, click the Start Download link.
    3. Save the file to your desktop.
    4. Double-click the Webfldrs-KB907306-ENU.exe icon on your desktop.
    5. If prompted by the User Account Control window, click Continue.
    6. Check the Click Here to Accept the Microsoft Software License Terms check box.
    7. Click Continue.
    8. Click Yes.
    9. A window informing you the installation is complete will display, click OK. Now try adding a network location again by starting from the first step of this article.

  4. In the User Name text box, type your PID.

    Note: If you are a non-Virginia Tech affiliate, type the User ID that the owner of the filebox or hosting site assigned to you.

  5. In the Password text box, type your PID password.

    Note: If you are a non-Virginia Tech affiliate, type the password that the owner of the filebox or hosting site assigned to you.

  6. Click OK.
  7. Name this network place.
    • In Windows XP:
      • If you are using the Web Folder to connect to your filebox, in the Type a Name for this Network Place: text box, type: VT Filebox
      • If you are using the Web Folder to connect to your hosting site, in the Type a Name for this Network Place: text box, type: VT Hosting
    • In Windows Vista:
      • If you are using the Web Folder to connect to your filebox, in the Type a Name for this Network Location: text box, type: VT Filebox
      • If you are using the Web Folder to connect to your hosting site, in the Type a Name for this Network Location: text box, type: VT Hosting
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Finish.
  10. In the User Name text box, type your PID.

    Note: If you are a non-Virginia Tech affiliate, type the User ID that the owner of the filebox or hosting site assigned to you.

  11. In the Password text box, type your PID password.
