Configuring Entourage 2008 in Mac OS X v10.4/10.5 to Connect to the VT Mail Server

- How do I configure Entourage 2008 in Mac OS X v10.4/10.5 to connect to the VT Mail server?
- Answer:
- Start Entourage.
- Under the Tools menu, select Accounts.
- Click the New button.
- When the Account Setup Assistant appears:
- In the E-mail address: box, type: [Your PID]@vt.edu
Note: Replace [Your PID] with your PID.
- Click the Right Arrow button.
- Under Verify and Complete Settings:
- In the Your Name text box, type your name.
- In the E-mail Address text box, type: [Your PID]@vt.edu
Note: Replace [Your PID] with your PID.
- In the Account ID: text box, type your PID.
- In the Password: text box, type your PID password.
- Clear the Save Password in My Mac OS Keychain check box.
Important: Clearing the Save Password check box means you will be prompted to enter your password when logging on to Entourage. This is recommended for security reasons.
- In the Incoming Mail Server text box, type: pop.vt.edu
- From the Incoming mail server type drop-down list, select POP.
- In the Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server text box, type: auth.smtp.vt.edu
- Click the Right Arrow button.
- Click the Verify My Settings button.
- Click the Right Arrow button.
- In the Account ID text box, type your PID.
- Click Finish.
- In the Accounts window, double-click VT Mail.
- Click the Account Settings tab.
- Under Receiving mail, click the Click here for advanced receiving options button.
- Place a check in the This POP service requires a secure connection (SSL) check box.The port should change to 995 (default is 110).
- Click outside of the pop-up window to make it disappear.
- Under Sending mail, click the Click here for advanced sending options button.
- Place a check in the SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL) check box.
- Place a check in the Override default SMTP port check box.
- Change the port number to 465.
- Place a check in the SMTP server requires authentication check box.
- Click the radio button next to Use same settings as receiving mail server.
- Click outside the pop-up window to make it disappear.
- Click OK.
- Close the Accounts window.
