Configuring Entourage 2008 in Mac OS X v10.4/10.5 to Connect to the VT Mail Server

Question:
How do I configure Entourage 2008 in Mac OS X v10.4/10.5 to connect to the VT Mail server?
Answer:
  1. Start Entourage.
  2. Under the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  3. Click the New button.
  4. When the Account Setup Assistant appears:
    1. In the E-mail address: box, type: [Your PID]@vt.edu

      2. Note: Replace [Your PID] with your PID.

    2. Click the Right Arrow button.
  5. Under Verify and Complete Settings:
    1. In the Your Name text box, type your name.
    2. In the E-mail Address text box, type: [Your PID]@vt.edu

      Note: Replace [Your PID] with your PID.

    3. In the Account ID: text box, type your PID.
    4. In the Password: text box, type your PID password.
    5. Clear the Save Password in My Mac OS Keychain check box.

      Important: Clearing the Save Password check box means you will be prompted to enter your password when logging on to Entourage. This is recommended for security reasons.

    6. In the Incoming Mail Server text box, type: pop.vt.edu
    7. From the Incoming mail server type drop-down list, select POP.
    8. In the Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server text box, type: auth.smtp.vt.edu
    9. Click the Right Arrow button.
    10. Click the Verify My Settings button.
    11. Click the Right Arrow button.
    12. In the Account ID text box, type your PID.
    13. Click Finish.
    14. In the Accounts window, double-click VT Mail.
    15. Click the Account Settings tab.
    16. Under Receiving mail, click the Click here for advanced receiving options button.
    17. Place a check in the This POP service requires a secure connection (SSL) check box.The port should change to 995 (default is 110).
    18. Click outside of the pop-up window to make it disappear.
    19. Under Sending mail, click the Click here for advanced sending options button.
    20. Place a check in the SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL) check box.
    21. Place a check in the Override default SMTP port check box.
    22. Change the port number to 465.
    23. Place a check in the SMTP server requires authentication check box.
    24. Click the radio button next to Use same settings as receiving mail server.
    25. Click outside the pop-up window to make it disappear.
    26. Click OK.
    27. Close the Accounts window.
