Displaying or Concealing Your Personal Information

- I am affiliated with Virginia Tech, and I want to display or conceal my personal information in VT People Search. How can I do this?

Important: If you are being stalked, harassed, or threatened, you need to contact the appropriate authorities immediately.
Notes:
- With the exception of emeritus faculty, retirees and former employees are not listed in the VT People Search; however, you may use these instructions to control the level of confidentiality regarding general inquiries.
- If you are an alum, a student who is not currently enrolled, or a former student, you are not listed in the VT People Search; however, you may use these instructions to permit or restrict confirmation of enrollment or degree information.
To make your information available or to hide your personal information:
- Go to the My VT (http://my.vt.edu/) Web site.
- Click the Log On with CAS button.
- In the VT PID: text box, type your Virginia Tech PID.
- In the Password: text box, type your PID password.
Note: If you have forgotten your password, call 4Help at (540) 231-HELP (4357).
- Click the Login button.
- Select the Personal Info tab.
- Under Contact Info, click the Manage Your Profile Visibility link.
- Under Visible Information, place a check in or clear the appropriate check box for information you want to display or conceal.
Important: If you conceal your PID, you should also create an e-mail alias in order to avoid exposure of your PID. You can then choose that alias as your preferred e-mail address to be displayed in the VT People Search. For instructions, refer to the following knowledge base articles:
- Click the Update Profile button.
- Click the Log Off link.
- For increased security, close your browser.
The information displayed in the VT People Search depends on your relationship with the university. To read more about what will and will not display, click the appropriate link below:
Notes:
- If you are a student, your information will only display if you are enrolled for the current term.
- It may take a few minutes for your confidentiality change to take effect.
