Important: - Outlook for Windows and Entourage for Mac OS were designed to be the e-mail clients of choice when accessing an Exchange server. If you use any other e-mail client, you should expect some quirks. For Outlook and Entourage instructions, see the appropriate information:

Students, alums, faculty, and staff members can find information about their VT Mail account on the VT Mailpage (http://www.computing.vt.edu/email_and_calendaring/vt_mail/index.html).
To configure OS X Mail, v10.4 to connect to the Virginia Tech Exchange Server:
- If you do not have an account set up in OS X Mail v10.4:
- Start Mail.
- From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
- Click the Accounts icon.
- Click the Plus Sign (+) button.
- From the Account Type drop-down list, select IMAP.
- In the Account Description text box, type: Exchange Mail
- In the Full Name text box, type your name as you want it to appear on messages you send.
- In the Email Address text box, type: [Your Hokies ID]@exchange.vt.edu
Note: Replace [Your Hokies ID] with your Hokies ID.
- Click the Continue button.
- In the Incoming Mail Server text box, type: exsecure.vt.edu
- In the User Name text box, type your Hokies ID.
- In the Password text box, type your Hokies password.
- Click the Continue button.
- In the Outgoing Mail Server text box, type: auth.smtp.vt.edu
- Click OK.
- Click the Continue button.
- Click the Continue button.
- If asked if you want to import mailboxes, click the No button.
- In the Enter Password for Account window, click Cancel.
- From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
- Select your Exchange account.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Beside Port, place a check in the Use SSL check box.
- Select the Account Information tab.
- Click the Server Settings button.
- In the Server port text box, type: 465.
- Place a check in the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) check box.
- From the Authentication drop-down list, select Password.
- In the User Name text box, type your PID.
- Click OK.
- Close the Accounts window.
- Click the Save button.
- Click the Get Mail icon.
- In the Enter Password for Account text box, type your Hokies password.
- Click OK.
- If you have an account set up in OS X, v10.4 Mail:
- Start Mail.
- From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
- Click the Accounts icon.
- Click the Plus Sign (+) button.
- From the Account Type drop-down list, select IMAP.

- From the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop-down list, select Add Server.
- In the Outgoing Mail Server text box, type:auth.smtp.vt.edu
- In the Server port text box, type: 465.
- Place a check in the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
- From the Authentication drop-down list, select Password.
- In the User Name text box, type your PID
- Click OK.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Beside Port, place a check in the UseSSL check box.
- Close the Accounts window.
- Click the Save button.
- Click the Get Mail icon.
- In the Enter Password for Account text box, type your Hokies password.
- Click OK.
Important: When checking your Exchange e-mail account, you must use your Hokies ID and password.
Important: When sending mail, you must use your PID and password.
