Time to Complete (in minutes):  5

Question:
How can I configure Eudora 6.2.4 for Mac OS X to search the VT online directory?
Answer:
Important: Current Eudora versions for the Mac OS do not support LDAP version 3, a required component for connecting to the VT LDAP server. For this reason, Eudora"s Finger Client will be utilized as a workaround until Eudora upgrades their mail client. The latest information concerning upgrades can be found at Eudora's Upgrade Your Eudora page (http://www.eudora.com/download/).

To configure the Eudora Finger Client to search the Virginia Tech directory:

  1. From the Special menu, select Settings.
  2. From the list on the left, select Hosts.
  3. In the Finger Server: text box, type: finger.vt.edu
  4. Click OK.
  5. To search the online directory:
    1. From the Window menu, select Directory Services.
    2. In the Enter Query text box, type the name of the person you want to find.
    3. Click the Finger button.
Notes:
  • If your search does not return any results, try typing only the person's last name.
  • If your search continues to return no results, the person's information may be suppressed from public view.
  • Using Virginia Tech"s People Search can verify that a person"s information has been suppressed.
