Deleting an Archive Folder in Outlook for Windows

How do I delete an archive folder in Outlook for Windows?
Answer:

Your archive folder is saved as a .pst file. Before deleting an archive folder, be sure you have moved all of the email messages you want to save from the archived file to an active .pst file.

To delete an archive folder:

  1. Start Outlook.
  2. To view the Folder List, on the keyboard, press Ctrl+6.
  3. In the left pane, right-click the archive folder you want to delete.
  4. View the properties.
    • In 2007, select Properties for "Archive Folders"....
    • In 2010 / 2013, select Data File Properties....
  5. Click the Advanced... button.
  6. To the right of Filename:, write down the location that is displayed.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Close all open Archive Folders. For instructions, see Closing Archive Folders in Outlook.
  10. Close Outlook.
  11. Enable the viewing of hidden files and folders. For instructions, see Displaying or Concealing Hidden Files and Folders in Windows.
  12. Navigate to the location you wrote down that will contain the .pst file you want to delete.
  13. Verify that you are looking at the correct file to be deleted.
  14. Right-click the .pst file.
  15. From the drop-down list, select Delete.
  16. If a confirmation window appears, click the Yes button.
