Problems Installing SAS 9.2 in Windows XP/Vista/7
Time to Complete (in minutes): 10
Question:
I am having problems installing SAS 9.2 in Windows XP/Vista/7. What is wrong and how do I fix it?

Answer:

Note: SAS expires each year on the 31st of July. It will continue to run until the 27th of October of that year.

There are many things that could cause problems during installation. Several of these are:
  • You are not logged on to an account with computer administrator privileges.
  • You are using the incorrect SAS CD. Make sure you are installing SAS 9.2 and not an earlier release of SAS 9.
  • Your computer is set to the wrong date and time. For detailed instructions on changing the date and time, refer to Changing the Date and Time in Windows XP/Vista/7 (http://answers.vt.edu/kb/entry/628/).
  • You have HP OfficeJet G85xi (printer, fax, scanner, copier) software installed on your computer. To correct this:
    1. Uninstall the HP OfficeJet G85xi (printer, fax, scanner, copier) software.
    2. Install SAS.
    3. Reinstall the latest drivers for the HP OfficeJet G85xi from the HP Support & Drivers (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html) Web page.
  • Antivirus programs may interfere with the installation of SAS. Disconnect your computer from the Internet, and then deactivate your antivirus program.

Important: Remember to reactivate your antivirus program after completing the SAS installation.

After you have checked the above items, try reinstalling SAS 9.2 If you are still having problems:
  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Start the Run utility.
    • In Windows XP, select Run.
    • In Windows Vista/7:
      1. Select All Programs.
      2. Select Accessories.
      3. Select Run.
  3. In the Open: text box, type: [CD Drive]:sassetup noreboot nomsupdate

Note: Replace [CD Drive] with the letter of the CD Drive in which the SAS CD is inserted.

Example: If the SAS CD was inserted in drive D:, then you should type: d:sassetup noreboot nomsupdate

  4. Click OK.
  5. The SAS installation will proceed in bypassing the Windows Update Wizard step.
  6. On your installation disk, in the Read Me.txt file, follow the instructions to continue with the SAS installation.
