How do I stop Word for Windows and Word for Mac OS X from capitalizing the letter "i" at the beginning of a word or when it stands alone?

To stop Word from capitalizing the letter "i" at the beginning of a word or when it stands alone:
  1. Start Word.
  2. Navigate to the AutoFormat options.
    • In 2003/2004:
      1. From the Format drop-down list, select AutoFormat....
      2. Click the Options... button.
      3. Select the AutoCorrect tab.
    • In 2007:
      1. Click the Office button.
      2. Click the Word Options button.
      3. In the left column, select Proofing.
      4. Click the AutoCorrect Options... button.
    • In 2008/2011, from the Tools drop-down list, select AutoCorrect....
    • In 2010/2013:
      1. Select the File tab.
      2. In the left column, select Options.
      3. In the left column, select Proofing.
      4. Click the AutoCorrect Options... button.
  3. Under Replace:, scroll down to i.
  4. Select i.
  5. Click the Delete button.
  6. Click OK.
