Notes:
  • Important: You must log on to a Mac OS X account with computer administrator privileges.
  • If you are dialing the modem pool from outside the Blacksburg area, long distance charges may apply. However, this will not affect your modem pool bill.

To configure Mac OS X v10.4 to connect to the modem pool:
  1. Verify that your modem is installed.
    1. From the Apple drop-down list, select System Preferences....
    2. Click the Network icon.
    3. From the Show: drop-down list, select Internal Modem.
    4. Select the Modem tab.
    5. From the Modem: drop-down list, select your modem.

      Note: If your modem is not installed, contact your computer's manufacturer for installation instructions.

  2. Configure your modem pool connection.
    1. Select the TCP/IP tab.
    2. From the Configure IPv4: drop-down list, select Using PPP.
    3. Select the PPP tab.
    4. In the Service Provider: text box, type: VT Modem Pool
    5. In the Account Name: text box, type your PID.
    6. In the Service Provider Phone Number: text box, type: 2327000

      Note: If you are dialing the modem pool from outside the Blacksburg calling area, in the Alternate Number: text box, type: 15402327000

    7. Click the PPP Options button.
    8. Clear the Prompt every __ minutes to maintain connection check box.
    9. Clear the Disconnect if idle for __ minutes check box.
    10. Place a check in the Disconnect when user logs out check box.
    11. Clear the Connect using a terminal window (command line) check box.
    12. Click OK.
    13. Select the Proxies tab.
    14. Clear all check boxes.
    15. Select the Modem tab.
    16. Next to Dialing, select the Tone radio button.
    17. Click the Apply Now button.
    18. Close the Network window.
  3. Connect to the modem pool.
    1. Double-click your hard drive icon.
    2. Double-click the Applications folder icon.
    3. Double-click the Internet Connect icon.
    4. In the Password: text box, type your PID password.
    5. Click the Connect button.
