How do I start or stop the Messenger service (Net Send) in Windows 2000/XP?

Caution: By starting the Messenger service, you are making it possible for hackers and spammers to compromise your computer.
To start or stop Messenger service (Net Send):
Go to your Administrative Tools settings:
In Windows XP:
From the Start menu, select Control Panel.
Click the Performance and Maintenance link.
Click the Administrative Tools link.
In Windows 2000:
From the Start menu, select Settings, and then select Control Panel.
Double-click the Administrative Tools icon.
Double-click the Services icon.
In the Name list, right-click Messenger and select Properties.
Select the General tab.
Start or stop the service.
To start the service: From the Startup Type drop-down list, select Automatic.
To stop the service:
Under Service Status, click the Stop button .
From the Startup Type drop-down list, select Disabled.
Click OK.
Restart your computer.
