Question:
How do I install the Virginia Tech Certification Authority (VTCA) root certificate for Mozilla 2.0 or Firefox?
Answer:
Important: Log on to your computer with an account with computer administrator privileges.
To install the VTCA root certificate:

Download the VTCA Root Certificate (https://secure.hosting.vt.edu/www.pki.vt.edu/download/root/cacert.crt).

Place a check in the Trust This CA to Identify Web Sites check box.

Place a check in the Trust This CA to Identify Email Users check box.

Place a check in the Trust This CA to Identify Software Developers check box.

Click OK.

Verify that the certificate is installed properly.

Open your certificate options.

In Firefox 2.0.0.3 for Windows:

From the Tools menu, select Options.

Click the Advanced tab.

Select the Security tab.

Click the View Certificates button.

In Firefox 2.0.0.3 for Mac OS X:

From the Firefox menu, select Preferences.

Click the Advanced icon.

Click the Encryption tab.
-
Click the View Certificates button.

Select the Authorities tab.
-
Select Virginia Tech Root CA Software Security Device.

Click the View button.
-
Verify that the fingerprints display as:
"SHA1: AF:6F:EB:42:FA:2F:E4:A2:6E:9F:7F:B5:B5:FF:3A:BC:13:C6:0D:81"
"MD5: CE:03:7C:49:13:54:5B:F5:D3:70:7A:18:4C:FC:25:30"

Click the Close button.

Click OK.

Close the Advanced Window.
