Question:

How do I set my Remote Access passphrase for VPN?

Answer:

  1. Faculty and staff may use their Hokies ID and password instead of setting up a Remote Access Passphrase:
    1. In the User Name field of the VPN connection screen, type HOKIES\[your Hokies ID]

Note: Replace [your Hokies ID] with your own Hokies ID.

    2. In the Password field of the VPN connection screen, enter your Hokies ID password.
Important: Faculty and staff using Windows Vista must log in to the VPN using their Hokies ID and password. The Remote Access Passphrase will not work when connecting to the VPN using Windows Vista.
  2. Students and others without Hokies IDs must set up a Remote Access passphrase:
    1. Log on to My VT (http://my.vt.edu/) using your PID and password.

      Notes:
      • If you want to be warned when you are being logged on to another Virginia Tech service automatically, place a check in the "Warn Me Before Logging On to Other Virginia Tech Websites" check box. You must place a check in this check box each time you log on to My VT.
      • If you have forgotten your password, call 4Help at (540) 231-4357.

    2. On the upper right-hand side of your screen, select the Settings tab.
Note: You may have to scroll over to the tab.
    3. Click the Set Remote Access Passphrase link.
    4. In the New Passphrase text box, type your new passphrase.
    5. In the Confirm Passphrase text box, type your new passphrase again.
    6. Click the Set Passphrase button.
    7. Click the Log Off button.
    8. For increased security, close your browser.
